WEB 2.0 Technical Brief

Web 2.0: This term was coined by Tim O’Reilly The information published in web 2.0 world is very different from web 1.0. There is a very high importance given on usability and sharing.

As per the backend, the characteristics of Web 2.0 include :

1) Visitors can make changes to Web pages: for eg Amazon allows visitors to sign up and put in information on a webpage which then becomes visible to future users.

2) Users get linked to each other through web pages: Social networking sites like Facebook, Orkut and MySpace are very famous today as they have linked back old pals and associates .

3) Fast and efficient ways to share content: YouTube is the perfect example. A YouTube member can create a video and upload it to the site for others to watch in less than an hour.

4) New ways to get information: Today, Internet surfers can subscribe to a Web page's Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds and receive notifications of that Web page's updates as long as they maintain an Internet connection.

5) Expanding access to the Internet beyond the computer : Many people access the Internet through devices like cell phones and some experts expect that users will access the Internet through television sets and other devices.

6) Widgets and Tagging are two important features of Web 2.0.
